MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Tuesday, June 9 will be our last general meeting before the summer break. PLEASE NOTE: WE WILL BE MEETING AT SOMERFORD PLACE ASSISTED LIVING , 2717 RIVA ROAD, ANNAPOLIS, at 8:30 a.m. Sherry Gilde and her staff are hosting us, and Sherry assures me, *We will have breakfast and our community room all ready for you.*
We*ll begin the meeting with Election of Officers for next year*s board. Then we*ll get on to a good networking time, complete with a few interactive activities to get us all talking to each other. This last meeting of the year is always a good opportunity to take time to really meet and greet those members you may not have spoken to before. There will be time and we will facilitate socializing. This is Facebook in person. Don*t miss it.
Our May meeting was a lot of fun. Thanks to Susan Amos for the path of balloons that showed us the way from Woods Memorial to the Severna Park Community Center. Our speaker, Gazella Weigand gave us food for thought as she explained The Emotion Code, a new healing therapy for releasing trapped emotions.
As well, Annette Batson, Grant Chairman presented $500.00 awards to five area nonprofits: Partners-in-Care, Catholic Charities, Heritage Harbour Health Group, Center for Help for Hispanic Speaking Persons and Meals on Wheels of Central MD. While we could only give five grants, all thirteen applicants are listed on the website. Support them if you can.
The new Services for Seniors 2009/2010 Directory was unveiled at our May meeting and most everyone was pleased with its scope and presentation. For those who have questions about the Directory, contact What*s Up Publishing's representative, Laney Solomon at 410-267-2390. SPG*s role is purely as facilitator during the process prior to publication.
As a reminder, non-members who wish to attend SPG programs will be assessed a $10.00 meeting fee at the door. Some individuals prefer to attend for specific programs only, so this is a way to do that without buying a full membership. Guests may attend one meeting free with a member and thereafter if they wish to join, the dues are $75.00 per year for an individual membership. The Board of Directors is offering prospective members the opportunity to join NOW and receive a free meeting in June as the $75.00 individual or corporate rate will be applied to next year*s full year*s membership commencing in September. You can download the application online at seniorprovidergroup.org or ask for one at the June meeting and hand your check in at that time. Don*t forget SPG*s stimulus package:Bring in two new members and your membership will be free next year.
As I come to the end of my year as SPG President, I thank my fellow board members for a great time and all of you who have contributed to a fine year of increased membership and great meetings. As our treasurer, Stuart Neff said in September, we need to aim for three things: to have FUN, to be PRODUCTIVE, and to increase MEMBERSHIP. I believe we*ve done just that. Our last four meetings have topped 65 in attendance, up from 40+ in the fall. Now the task ahead is to keep the momentum going. Let*s continue it together.
I look forward to greeting you on Tuesday, June 9 at Somerford Place Assisted Living at 8:30 a.m. Thereafter, enjoy a relaxed and peaceful summer!
Maeve Ostrowski, RN-BC, MS
